What’s New/About Us
High Standards is a group of experienced musicians who want to play well and bring joy! We play a myriad of genres and come from all different background to make a fusion of psychedelic rock, folk, blues, country, Americana. loose, improvisational jam-band feel with melodic, expressive bluesy pizzacato guitar leads, jazzy drum grooves,walking, melodic basslines. open chord voicings, shuffle rhythms, guitars of many kinds, Mandolins, stand up bass and percussion!

“Soft Shine” lives in that space between confusion and clarity, the moment where something unsettled suddenly makes sense, even if only for a second. The lyrics move through fragmented thoughts, missteps, and quiet realizations, reflecting the way we often stumble into understanding rather than arrive at it intentionally.
There’s a tension throughout the song between illusion and truth—between what we think we know and what reveals itself when we slow down and look closer. Images of movement, chance, and subtle disruption hint at the idea that growth doesn’t come from perfection, but from the unexpected moments that interrupt our patterns.
At its core, the song explores perspective and how stepping outside of ourselves, even briefly, can bring a kind of clarity that feels almost like grace. Not something earned, but something glimpsed. Something that reshapes the way we see the world, and maybe more importantly, the way we see ourselves.
Meet The Band
Steve Elowson
Multi Instrumentalist/Vocals
Steve’s been a songwriter my whole life and live in Flagstaff Arizona now at 7,000 feet! His songs tend to look toward the spiritual side of life.
Justin Covey Wallace
Bassist
With roots in blues, rock, acoustic performance, and live improvisation, Justin brings decades of musical experience and versatility to High Standards. From southern Alabama jam bands to Arizona weddings and live events, his dynamic bass playing helps drive the energy and connection behind every performance.
Matt Root
Guitarist
Matt’s style has evolved over the years, blending influences from classical, jazz, fusion, and rock. I studied performance at Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University.
Conrad Valdini
Drummer
Originally from Milan Italy studied Drums at the Westchester Conservatory of music; Jazz with Jeff Hershfield.
